The Unique Tibumana Waterfall, Bali
One of the most exiting and adventuring things to do while in Bali is to chase waterfalls. Between more than 20 different one’s there is one in particular that stands out from all the others, by its beautiful flow – the unique Tibumana waterfall. This little slice of paradise is by far one of the most beautiful waterfalls we ever seen and it is also our favorite one, that is why we’ve been there several times, but still feel amazed by all its glory.
While on the island, make sure you chase as many waterfalls you can! Check our post to find out the most beautiful waterfalls in Bali.
Where is it located?
Tibumana Waterfall is located in the province of Gianyar, just outside Ubud. There are several other waterfalls in the area as well, but this is the most known and the you won’t want to miss it. If you search on maps, you will easily find the exact location for the waterfall.
How to get there?
Our advice is for you to rent out a scooter and drive up there, as it is a really beautiful and scenic drive, where you will pass by many rice terraces, little villages with warming people and even a view to Mount Agung. It takes about 30 min from Ubud and 1 h 15 min from Canggu, but it can be longer or shorter depending on the traffic. There is also the option to hire a private driver to take you there.
What to expect?
A true gem, one of the most unique, perfect and strong water flows you can imagine. Before you get to the waterfall there is a small fee of 15,000 IDR to pay (1 euro), and then you can park the scooter further on the way. The path down is really easy and will take you about 10 minutes tops to get there. On the way to the actual waterfall, you have another small one, that gets bigger if you go on rainy season, so take time to admire that one. Once you get to Tibumana, take some time to contemplate is majesty and then go for a swim. The water there is not blue as see in the photos, it is a little bit brown but that is due to the sand and rocks at the bottom, but is still clean and pure.
A few tips
If you want to avoid the crowds, go between 6 and 9 am, or late afternoon from 5 pm. The access to the waterfall closes at 6 pm.
Bring swimwear, as you can go for a swim there. Take note that it is freezing cold over there.
On the way to Tibumana there is a beautiful small waterfall and a wooden bridge, it is a good spot to photograph.
Bali has a big problem with plastic and litter due to mass tourism, so make sure you leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but beautiful moments. On the way back from the waterfall pick any rubbish you find and dispose it in the right place. Together we can make the world a better place.
