5 Things To Do Around Canggu, Bali
Can you imagine yourself discovering a place where you can chill at wonderful cafes and restaurants, stroll around amazing markets and fashion stores and go to beaches where you can sunbathe , surf or party? Well you can find all of these in Canggu, the most hipster town of Bali. We’ve spend 2 weeks exploring the surroundings and we gathered the top five things to do around the city.
SURF AT BATU BOLONG BEACH
Canggu is known to have one of Bali’s preferred spots to surf, either you are an experienced surfer or a learner, you just can’t miss the waves at Batu Bolong Beach.
We had our first surf experience with a local instructor, so we highly recommend Angga from Warung Yana (you can find his place on the left side of the temple, facing the ocean). His chilled vibes will make you want to surf every day!
During sunset you can also rent a surf board for 50,000 IDR (2,80 eur / 3,30 $) and experience a sunset in the ocean, where the magical colours in the sky and the warm feelings of being in the ocean will make you feel blessed by the universe.
SUNSET WALK IN CEMAGI BEACH
Far from all the city madness, you can find this little piece of sandy heaven and beautiful ocean views. Mainly frequented by locals, this beach is one of the best places to relax, listen to the sound of the waves or just walk along the shore, admiring those warm pink tones in the sky, as the sun fades in the horizon. Cemagi beach is easily accessible, so grab your motorbike and have some quite time, feeling the breeze of the ocean.
WICKED WEDNESDAY AT OLD MAN’S BAR
Hosting the best parties in Canggu, Old Man’s will provide the most chilled vibes in town. They have music almost every night, but nothing beats the wicked Wednesdays. Starting with beer pong tournaments, passing through amazing DJ’s and music hits on the dance floor and ending on the beach, dancing barefooted, this is the place where you can have the most amazing night of your life. Be aware that can be a little bit crowded, but is still worthy to go and have some good time with friends.
BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE AT TANAH LOT TEMPLE (AND MELASTI BEACH)
One of the main attractions near Canggu, Tanah Lot area offers the best sunset views you can get. Being very popular and busy during that time of the day, we chose sunrise as the best experience you can have there. Follow the directions on google maps and park your scooter on the main area. As you walk towards the temple, you will see an amazing rock with a curve shaped cave on your right. Look for a small gate with concrete steps and follow those until you reach the most serene and quiet beach.
After some views to the cave, head up and follow the path to Tanah Lot temple. To access the temple the tide must be low, but there’s no need to cross it as the temple is not accessible, only for locals.
The main attraction is the beach surrounding it. If you continue to the left side o the temple, you will hit the most epic scenes of Melasti beach. You can even find a waterfall there during the rainy season.
Before you consider visiting Tanah Lot Temple, check the tides timetable first, as the tide must be low so you can enjoy all this hidden gems.
STROLL AROUND THE MARKETS
On every Sunday, from 9 am to 2 pm, you can find this wonderful local market, full of organic products, ranging from fruits and food, to cosmetics and beauty. Here you can also buy ethical clothing from small local brands and businesses. With a really chilled atmosphere, Samadi market is also a foodie paradise so make sure you grab a meal at the restaurant inside.
Love Anchor Market
From Monday to Friday (10 am to 10 pm) you can stroll around this vibrant and chilled market, located on the main road to Batu Bolong Beach. You can find so many things like jewelry, clothes, local art and crafts, musical instruments and a whole lot of souvenirs. Make sure you bring your best bargaining skills as you’ll need it, never pay the price they ask, you always can get cheaper! During the weekend the opening times are from 10 am to 5 pm.
