3 Day Guide To Nusa Penida Island - Bali
Wonderful tropical and wild beaches, crystal clear blue waters and breathtaking cliff views…how does this sound to you? Well, we’re sure you will feel in an awe with the ultimate ‘lost in paradise’ experience you can have in Nusa Penida island, one of the most desirable trips while staying in Bali. We took a small 3 day trip along the island and have putted a quick guide, covering our whole experience. Ready to explore with us? Let’s get wild!
How to get there
Nusa Penida is just at a short boat ride from the mainland and Nusa Lembongan. There are so many companies that do this journey, so you will have many options to choose from.
We came from Nusa Lembongan, where we took a small boat till the main port in Nusa, taking us only 15 minutes to get there. To take this boat you should head over to the yellow bridge and find the company that does this boat ride. Be aware that they will make their own prices so bargain a little bit. We paid 60,00 IDR each for a single journey. It was a really small boat so make sure that you have your luggage covered so it doesn’t get wet during the ride.
The island is not very big, so you can drive from north till south in 1 hour. Riding a motorbike is the cheapest and fastest way to get around the island, although can be very dangerous as most of the roads to the main attractions are in really bad condition.
If you choose to rent a motorbike, you can do it getting one at the harbor for an average 60,000 IDR per day (3,60 eur / 4 $). Please be careful driving around the island, we don’t advise you to do if you aren’t an experienced driver (and never skip the helmet!). It is advisable to have a travel insurance in case of any accident, you can check which on we use here.
By car is the safest way but it can be a little bit expensive, reaching the 350,000/500,000 IDR per day.
The 3 day guide
This was our first stop in the island and honestly it amazed us so much! Known as the “T-Rex” shaped cliff, adding an extra awesomeness to the already breathtaking view you can get there. Embrace yourself and get ready for one of the most beautiful scenarios on the island, just before you head down to the beach.
Parking fee – 10,000 IDR
Penida is known by its many wild beaches and Kelingking beach is one of them that you just can’t miss! It is a hard path to go down till the beach so bring comfortable clothing and shoes and don’t forget to bring water, it will be the most adventurous hike of your life.
Cristal bay beach is the most know spot on the island, mainly for its numerous diving/snorkeling activities that you can partake, to see the corals or swim with the Manta rays, an experience that you don’t want to miss.
Parking fee – 5000 IDR
The Gallery – Vegan friendly
Full Moon Bar & Restaurant – Best live music in the island
One of the hardest paths to drive but the worthiest one! Getting there is not easy, but you will experience one of the bluest natural swimming pools of your life. We went at sunrise and no one was there, so it was the perfect way to star the day with a morning swim. Be aware that this place is known to be dangerous as the ocean can get wild, so check the tides chart before you get there (it must be low tide).
A place where the cliffs divide the blue ocean, definitely the most wonderful scenarios we’ve seen in our whole life. After Angel’s Billabong, just keep walking on the pathway and you will se this beautiful natural formation.
You probably have seen so many photos from a blue stairway facing the ocean, right? Peguyangan is the place! After so many steps down, you will reach one of the most unique waterfalls in the ocean, followed by 3 small natural pools where you can swim and enjoy the view to the sunset. There is a temple at the bottom of the waterfall so bring your sarong to cover yourself.
Penida colada – The coolest vibes
On our last day we chose to drive 1 hour at sunrise, to reach the stunning Atuh Beach. Before you go down and enjoy the sun, take some time to admire the view surrounding it, as it will take you on a journey to freedom.
The best way to get there is to follow the signs to Atuh Beach, as google maps will originally take you to the right side of the beach, where the way down is much more adventurous than the other side.
This wild beach made our top as the most beautiful beach in Bali. Just before you go down on the stairway to heaven (literally), you will see an amazing crystal clear ocean view, with some rock formations in the middle. Then you can go down and feel what true freedom feels like.
